Hey, if you're ordering the minimum amount of chicks, I'd suggest you do 1-2 more than the minimum. It's happened before and has saved me on a few occasions.

I would, but parents -_- The 3 possible situations are:
-keep my current flock of four, and get four chicks (1 above the minimum)
-give back my current flock and get four chicks in the spring (1 above minimum) and four chicks spring 2022
-give back flock and get 5 chicks this spring (2 being silkies) and 3 chicks 2022
Those last two are more likely, and the ones where I get input on breeds. This hatchery is also quite close to me, hence why I'm choosing it.

Okay, sorry. It's just that I had ordered 2 of one breed (one in case the other died), and during shipping, the other died.
Nothing to be sorry about! I'm sorry if I came across as angry or condescending or anything in my last post, that wasn't my intention at all. I'd love to be able to order extra chicks, but because the odds are in the favor of them surviving, my parents would never go for it.

Just so you know Barred Rocks and Rhope Island Reds are very aggressive yo their birds. So if you ever want to add anymore birds it may be hard introducing them and you may not be able to keep them.

my grandfather has 3 barred rocks, 3 rhode island reds a few other birds a little bantam roo and he had one Australourp. Well the rocks and the rir’s beat that poor Australourp up so bad he couldn’t keep her in the same coop and he gave her to me.

Oh no! I knew that RIRs could be aggressive but I didn't know that about barred rocks. I think that in the situation where I would be getting one would be a situation where that would be the last integration (I will NOT be able to push above 8 birds) do you think that that could mitigate the problem? They are my mom's favorite breed and she reaaaaally wants one. Aside from that they don't really have any breed input, so I'm inclined to go for one.
