So this might not actually end up happening, depending on what parents decide, but in one of my 2 possible plans, I am getting some chicks and I don't know what breeds I should get. One of them will be a white leghorn, but there are two more chick slots that need to be filled.
Options are:
-Cream Legbar
-Red Sex Link
-Barred Rock
-Delaware
-Speckled Sussex
-Olive Egger
-Silver Spangled Hamburg
-Golden Laced Wyandotte
-Silver Laced Wyandotte
-Black Australorp
This will be going into a flock of:
-Cochin
-Silkie
-Silkie
-Easter Egger
-Black Copper Marans
I enjoy having varied egg colors, so any egg color. I get hot summers and cold winters. I'm not looking for broody hens but don't mind breaking them, and for the parent's sake, high egg production would be great. These birds will have some free range time but not infinite time, so I'd need breeds that can adjust to being confined and I don't need any super good foragers. I'm mostly open on traits like egg color, foraging, and broodiness, as I don't mind variation.
Any but RSLs. If they will be even halfway pets, and as producers. They often die from reproductive issues. At around 2 years.

I mean if you wanted one you could try it but you should always get 2 of the same breed of bird. RIR’s are a lot worse than barred rocks but I have said that I will never get any of those two breeds.
I used to have them and I sold them stat they were to mean, even beat up my rooster!

So far, the rankings stand like this (most votes to least)
Olive Egger (4)
Barred Rock (4)
Speckled Sussex (3)
Cream Legbar (2)
Red Sex Link (2)
Black Australorp (2)
Silver Spangled Hamburg (1)
Golden Laced Wyandotte (1)
Silver Laced Wyandotte (0)
Delaware (0)

*gulp* 3 of my current flock are red sex links.....(not by choice, but still)

If I were you I would get Black Australourps they are super gentle and mine lay everyday! I have 7 of them. Then I would get some Olive Eggers and Legbars they are nice and the eggs are gorgeous! My freind has golden-laced Wyandotte’s and while hers doesn’t lay everyday they are super gentle.

Oh no! You have to make sure always to read about a breed before you buy the chick/chicken.
Current flock is rental chickens (Loooooong story) and we had *asked* for 3 barred rocks. (the options listed were barred rocks and black australorps) we went with barred rocks because from what I had read they weren't aggressive (which is apparently incorrect) and because my mom likes them best. I also thought that I'd rather have 3 barred chickens instead of 3 black chickens. The rental people showed up with 3 red sex links and one white leghorn, so that's why I say that the RSLs were not by choice.

Ok, I'll look into them! My friends have an australorp who is definitely the least gentle of her flock, so that's why I was avoiding them a bit. I love the colors on wyandottes, but I wasn't sure about them. The only ones that I'm set in stone on are the cochin, easter egger, and black copper marans that I mentioned before, that I'll definitely be getting.
