I have to say, I have absolutely no problem registering my chickens, or liscencing my dog, or my cats for that matter. We all know that animal cruelty is an issue in this country, and if my simple compliance to ensure that my animals are safely and humanely treated, and kept healthy helps to remove even ONE other bird from an inhumane or unhealthy situation, than I am all for it.

I have seen chicken 'farms' that were not up to any standard short of the chaos theory, personally, having worked in animal shelters and Vet clinics, anything that helps to hold people accountable for the animals they maintain is an asset to us as a society.

My ladies wouldnt mind leg bracelets, Charms are all the fad, and why would you be worried about an inspector? If you are doing everything right, than you have no worries?

I dont see the point for alarm.

well its not free for one, and it would be a hassle for me to go outside and round up 150+ chickens and chicks to be registered.. Oh and don't forget about the geese, ducks, guineas, turkeys, goats and dogs. I cant totally see a person with only a few chickens saying they wouldn't mind doing it.

Again, here is a good opportunity for you to point to the exact current proposal that would require you to do that.

I don't think this is an irrational request.

What in that vast website makes you say "I agree, its a way for the goverment to make money?" What did you see there that indicates the government will force anyone to pay anything?

That website says Federal registration is voluntary (i.e. costs nothing) and that those who do chose to participate have a choice of registering their animals as a group or individually if they prefer.

That is what I read there. Is there something you've read there that contradicts this?

Please let me know if this is an unreasonable request.

This is supposed to help take an objective look at the proposal? It begins: "THE LATEST TYRANNY: TAGGING TERRORIST CHICKENS"

Sorry, that doesn't help in the least.

That's why I simply ask opponents to point to the actual text of the objectional proposal, not simply their interpretation of it, or their fanciful scenarios of what it might lead to. That is what I require to make up my mind on the subject. You should require no less.

I just got done looking at the actual NAIS government site. Looking from the point of view of someone who has not heard of this before. All I heard was blah blah blah blah while reading. Didn't they try this in another country already? and why would you want the government in yet another aspect of your life?
I could go into both sides of the argument but if you have a small private farm then it is just that. Some people have the mindset of if the government says jump you whip out the trampoline and put the blindfold on. As far as animal abuse goes nothing about this act is going to protect animals from bad situations. From a government standpoint there is nothing wrong with the way commercially farmed animals are treated now so why would that change?
