Chirping
I've had hens before, but it's my first time raising chicks, and I was so terrified of getting something wrong (failure to thrive, roosters, etc.) that I over-committed on chicks. Well, as it turns out, all of my chicks have been ridiculously healthy and pullets - so I now need to downsize my flock before they get too large for their space. While I wish I could keep them all, sadly I legally can't keep over a certain # of chickens, so I have to start finding new homes sooner rather than later. A friend with a broody hen took one, and I'm looking for an owner (ideally with a batch of chicks around the same age) for our Marans.
Pictures are attached - I'm not a Marans expert, but she looks fairly breed standard with copper coloring on the back of her neck and feathered feet. She will lay dark brown eggs when she reaches laying age. She is fully feathered and has been in an outdoor run/coop for the past week or so. Her hatch date was 4/14/2021, she came from a NPIP certified breeder, and is vaccinated against 2 strains of Marek's & fed medicated chick starter. She was handled daily as a chick (checking for pasty butt, etc.) and raised (supervised) around our herding dog and is not alarmed by the dog. In terms of friendliness I would put her about on a 5 on a scale of 1-10 - she doesn't hop into my lap/arms when she sees me like my Cream Legbar, but she also doesn't run screaming from me and will generally allow us to pick her up and inspect her with minimal fuss.
I'm ideally looking for a home that has a set of chicks/pullets around her age (she is definitely still too small to be integrated into an adult flock), and has experience integrating new chickens into a flock (generally a very stressful experience for chickens on both sides that can lead to either illness or death if done improperly).
For the right owner, I'd be willing to continue raising her until she's large enough to integrate into an adult flock, or make the drive to drop her off at her new home (within 2-3 hrs of Seattle). If you absolutely have no other chickens in her age range, I could also be convinced to pair her off with a very dark Blue Laced Red Wyandotte to ensure she has a flockmate to help minimize bullying.
