How do you think chickens would do on a trip from WA to AZ???? We are talking about moving there in Jan-Feb because our friends are getting re-stationed in the Marines and that is where they are going and i guess we may be going too...who knows? But would they survive a 24-28 hour trip in a U-Haul????

Who has chickens in AZ? What do you do for coops? Is it hot there?? LOL...great, Yuma here we come....maybe...as long as my chickens will survive!

(I wanted Montana...go figure)

Please don't carry them inside a U-Haul--there is not nearly enough fresh air. Yes, they will survive a trip--many folks drive that far taking birds to shows.

Build your coop to accomodate HOT not cold weather. One to three sides that are wire are pretty common. A fully enclosed coop is not a good idea unless you intend to add a/c or a heat pump.

Umm, is it hot here...well supposed to be 105 today, which means it will really be 108+, 115 on the weekend which means it could get to 118. Before anyone says it's a dry heat--not in July.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you kidding me???? 118!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, ummmm so find a house with air conditioning! How are the winters there? My kids are upset that we talked about going where it doesnt snow lol

It usually snows in Flagstaff and atop Mt Lemmon. It always snows in the NE part of the state (and doesn't get very hot). Yuma--I doubt it has ever snowed there.

Okay, this gives records and averages for Yuma: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/daily/85365?par=aolsvc&site=aolservicewx&promo=0&cm_ven=AOLSvc&cm_cat=AOLServiceWx&cm_pla=WxPage&cm_ite=Map

Record
low is in Dec--24 degrees. Record high is 124 towards the end of July, which is kind of surpising--June is usually the hottest month.

Montana is starting to look better and better...LOL! I love the heat, I am 5'5 125 mexican...my DH, 6'4 300lbs of pure muscle (heavy lifter and personal trainer) and Polish!!!!!!!!!!! Yep Polish...half of my kids tan...the other half burn!

This will be my second time telling this story here. A couple years ago we helped move some friends across town in a U-haul truck. A couple people ended up having to ride in the back of the truck for about 20 minutes...just across town... no big deal... right?

Wrong! The truck had an exhaust leak that was pouring exhaust into the back of the truck. We were locked in the back of the truck, pounding on the partition between the driver and the back trying to get him to pull over to let us out for some air. We almost suffocated in that 20 minutes. It was awful.

Do not move your birds in the back of a U-haul. They are very susceptible to CO poisoning and you will likely lose all your birds. U-Haul does not allow live freight to be hauled in the back of their trucks because of the dangers to the animals. Maybe if you used a detached trailer? Dog crates in the car? Anything but one of those box trucks...
