Waiting for my hen to go broody

But I guess I should keep the 20 in the nest (even though I know that only 10 will be good for hatch) so that I will stimulate the hen's instict to go broody. If she doesn't sit on the eggs are they good for consumption? Even the one laid 20 days before?

I had a Pekin go broody on about 20 eggs about a month ago, I left the other ducks in the same area as her, and when she got up to eat and drink I caught one of my other females wrecking her nest,she had the eggs scattered everywhere. I decided not to continue with those eggs worried they would be scrambled, I collected eggs from my females for the next few days and when I had 15 I rebuilt her nest and put the eggs in, caught her and placed her on the nest,and sectioned the yard off from the others, she layed right down and has been on them for 9 days now. I was surprised it actually worked, but am very happy it did, we will see if she is successful in 19 or so days!!!

Oh, I'm really surprised that your hen continued to be broody after the adventure that she had. I guess that doesn't happen so often with other hens. I already have 9 eggs in her nest and I'm really anxious to see if she will eventually sit on them. I put a lot of hay in a corner of the coop and she had formed an amazing nest. Every time she lays an egg she covers all the rest. Is that a sign that she will go broody?

No, not a sign of Broodiness....They all can hide their eggs.......

Thank you again for your information! I prepared a nice wooden box with hay, that she liked from the very beginning and I also added a small curtain to darken a little bit her area. We'll see. I'll let you know if she does go broody.
