Waiting on chicks this week! (May 1st)

Good luck!

My chicks came today! They left a message on my work phone early this morning. So I drove all the way into work, got the message and then rushed home. My husband drove to PO and picked them up and I got them set up as soon as I got home. Luckily I have a very understanding boss. Hubby said there was another box of chicks there waiting for someone else.

All chicks made it here to Alaska alive. I think I have 2 extra bantams, an extra mottled cochin and an extra bantam with feathered feet (different color than other). I think that is the free fancy? Do they sex bantams? So I am thinking I have a 50/50 chance with that little one?

Wanted to add I went to murry website and looked at the videos they have of chicks and pretty sure my freebie is a Light Brahma Bantam! I had wanted some Brahma's (big ones, but a bantam will do!)

Well day two and unfortunately the free exotic chick from McMurry did not make it thru the night, but the remaining 25 seem almost double in size and are very "curious" and active. The packing list indicates that I was sent an extra "free" silver Leghorn but was not in the box. I know counting a mixture of baby chicks can become a blurry mess but why send me a "free" rooster? Is this common to do during packing the order?

Sorry to hear about your free chick.

I checked my packing box and it just says free exotic chick straight run on my label. It does also say they added one free mottled cochin. I guess they were worried the bantams would have more trouble.. My little freebie is very tiny, it's the smallest but she seems to be a fighter.

Forgot to add yes, the free exotic chick is usually a rooster. Or they use them as "packing peanuts" to keep the others warmer.

sooo anxious! yes, I'm expecting 5 chicks this week from mypetchicken. 2 red stars and 3 feather legged bantams.. I'm all set up. I've called hte post office twice now. I feel like a kid :) Are they there yet? huh? Are they there yet? I didn't really expect them today - but HOPEFULLY tomorrow. First chickens ever.

Oh and now the nervous waiting really begins!

My blackberry just buzzed... checked the e-mail... what did it say?
