Waiting & waiting for our first egg but have a question

They are okay. The day will come in a few weeks when you go out to the nesting boxes and someone left you a present. That is an awesomne moment- YOUR 1ST EGG!

Remember they egg-production slows in the winter... Be patient.

Mine are all puffy and bright red combed hatched 5/15 and 7/20 and still no eggs.

I try not to worry too much about it so I will be surprised! It helps with not being too disapointed. I did add golf balls in all the nest boxes and I am adding some kitty chow to their food to up the protein my layer feed was 15% someone suggested it might help to add more protein and cut back on the scratch I was feeding them.

So we are all just Waiting!

My Buff Comets (golden comets) started laying at 16 weeks. I have four breeds and several of the BC were the first ones. By 17 weeks others had started and all by 18 weeks. They are RIR, Barred Rock, Black Australorpes. They are now at 20 weeks and they do not seem to know that it is winter time and that they should be slowing down.

16 eggs most days, 17 tops.

I read about chickens that started laying at 19 or 20 weeks and thought that was the average, but I don't think it is. Three of my four are now laying - my Buff Orpington started laying on her 6 month birthday; my Light Brahma and EE at 26 weeks. My Delaware is 27 weeks and shows no signs of laying yet.

It's so hard to wait, but so exciting when it happens!!!!!
