Sky continued to cry silently. There were large scars where the scientists had began to cut, but never succeeded.
He put his wing over her comfortingly. then he heard a rumbling sound in the distance, and looked up to see a large truck coming down the road. oh no he thought to himself.

Sky's head shot up. She growled.
The truck came down the road at a racing speed, and the road was to wide to get out of the way in time. "get behind me" Guard said, his tone gentle but firm.

Sky did as she was told.

Guard turned, stood side-on to the on-coming truck, and grew to three times sky's size. his whole body tensed as the truck bore apon them.

Skylar felt her heart thumping loudly in her chest, and could hear the blood rushing in her ears.

time seemed to slow down as the truck came apon them. the driver saw him and slammed on the brakes, causing the front end of the truck to pull downwards. but the truck didn't stop in time, and the impact on guard was harsh. but he withstood the blow, and the truck's bonnet shifted downwards. then, in what seemed like slow-motion, the truck began to flip over them, the back end lifting. as the wheels left the ground, Guard shrunk back to twice sky's size, and crouched on the ground. shielding her with his wing, they watched the truck flip over in mid-air, then land upside-down on it's roof. time came back up to speed, and the truck skidded a little way down the road on it's roof. Sparks flew everywhere with the sound of metal scraping on the tarmac. guard stood up, his heart beating rapidly with adrenalin, his side aching from the impact.

Sky watched, fear bubbling up inside of her. She pressed herself closer to Guard until it was over. After the truck had flipped, she darted out, inspecting his side. "It looks pretty badly bruised... You'll have to sleep next to me tonight, and it'll heal," she murmured, touching it gently with the wet tip of her nose. The sun had nearly set, leaving a few dying, red rays of light splattered across the woods. Sky attempted to lead him off of the road, and towards her den.
