Walked out and found a hawk!

Not me, but a friend, saw the whole thing happen, it tired to pull the chicken through the chicken wire, she saw it happen through her kitchen window, she ran out but was to late. So I did research and Turkey Vultures do not attack live animals but black headed ones do. Maybe the hawks in my area hunt around me and then move on after noon because I only see/hear them in the morning

My hawks that I can see through most of day seem to hit certain areas at particular times of day and others at other times. When it is really hot or they have been successful then hunting stops. This holds only for birds with feeding territories. Juveniles / vagrants hunt over much larger areas that are not defended and pattern may not be as evident.

Black vultures going after live prey are likely to restrict efforts to targets with very limited abilities to defend selves.

Hmm, interestin bit of info there thx. Ill have to google it to see the difference, they all look like dirty old buzzards to me lol.

Turkey vultures are the ones with the ugly red head and tend to be more brown in color, black headed are just that, solid black head with a black body. I think they are consider opportunist.
