And have pepper spray, or better yet, bear spray, easily available, so when those loose dogs, or whatever, show up, you might be able to save your chicken's life.

I always have Bear and Pepper spray with me. I tried the no leash thing and she loosely followed me. She still had a harness on and I had a leash with me, but it worked pretty good. We saw a deer and it saw us and it ran away as fast as possible for no reason.
