I have been told, for a while now, that walmart will be getting rid of their fabric dept. I am happy to report that today I was told they will be keeping our fabric and all the walmarts that lost theirs will be getting it back.

That sure made my day! The guy that is over my local walmarts fabric told me. He just found it out this morning. He went straight and ordered more fabric and hoped to get more John Deere fabric in!

I hope so too! I new he was not the normal lady that is there cutting my fabric. So I was making small talk and brought it up. That I couldn't believe they were getting rid of the fabric. That I would have to drive somewhere else to get it and that would make me having more money in my fabric. He said funny you bring that up. Im over this dept and they just told me this morning they will be keeping it and also bring back a bunch of stuff in sporting goods. He then went on to say other walmarts are getting it back and he had already ordered us more and requested a new fabric book for them to order out of. So we will see what happens!!

Ours is getting rid of the prepackaged fabrics and the yarn. The woman I spoke to yesterday said the scrapbook section was next. The electronics department is expanding.

I was told several years ago that even though you may see the same fabric at Walmart, the thread count is lower. I'm guessing the fabric companies make different grades. I have noticed that expensive fabric is silkier. Probably it would be similar to sheets and linens--higher thread count cost more. I have also heard that Walmart will be having smaller Walmart stores in different areas. The dollar type stores are real competition in out-lying areas.

That's good news that they will not be taking them away completely! Our local walmart got a make over a couple of months ago and they did move the fabric dept. to a different location in the store and it seems smaller but did not close it.

My mom's walmart closed the fabric section and much of the crafts, citing the need for more space for other departments. Three years later it is just an empty space where they part random pallets of stuff.

I know I read on the net somewhere that Walmart had said they were bring back 3500 or 8500 products they had discounted from their stores. I think I read it back in February. I will see if I can find it again.
