Hi! Has anyone tried this layer feed from Walmart? I finished a 50lb pound bag of it and have good hard shelled eggs and my hens seem healthy and happy. Is this feed bad to feed in the long term though? I only got it because I was in a rush but was wondering if its healthy so I can continue using it? It's pretty cheap as you can see, thats why I'm curious.

The protein content is too low.
I wouldn't feed it.

Being out in the middle of nowhere like I am, the only feed I have access to is this feed from Walmart and have fed it for 10 years. It's a Manna Pro feed, my birds have always done well on it, they lay well, the birds are healthy, the feed is never out of date and is never older than a couple weeks old. It smells good, my birds love it. I do recommend adding more protein during molting season however, I usually add chick starter to increase protein for good feather growth. Otherwise it's a great feed during laying season! I think it's a great feed!

Thank you!

Alright, thank you! As I said, I only got it cause I was in a pinch. I will get a higher protein one! How how of a percentage should the protein be?
I don’t believe you need to get higher protein as this is a complete balanced diet. Sure when molting I would mix with a starter to increase protein to about 18-20% as stated by others. If it’s working for you and you don’t see a reduction in production why change it.
