WalMart Rant

Leadership matters. I worked at a small hospital that brought in new management. They lost the focus on patient care and only seemed to care about cost cutting. Half the nurses left, and all the doctors moved on within a year. Same hospital, just different management with different priorities. The only employees that stayed had limited options. But they were not happy working there anymore.
How can they expect employees to care when leadership doesn't? Sure there will always be employees that won't care regardless and others who will care no matter what, but if leadership cares the ones that won't care will be ousted and the ones that do care will have the support they need and care even more. Hiring the right people matters and hiring the right leadership is paramount as it sets the mood for the business

FWIW, when I wrote my draft complaint letter to WalMart management, I used MS CoPilot AI to help proofread my draft and make suggestions for improvements. It can really be hard to proofread your own work, especially when you are emotionally distracted about the situation. I am happy to say that CoPilot did a great job making some minor suggestions on how to improve my complaint. CoPilot suggested rewording a few passages to be more concise, more professional, and I hope more effective. I think CoPilot AI is a great tool in that respect. I like using it as a tool to help me express myself better.

:lau Well, except for my posts on the BYC forum. It's just train of thought here, people.

Walmart has changed a LOT. I used to merchandise for an outside vendor in several Walmarts, and the store manager makes a big difference. However, corporate heads also cause a lot of issues that they are not on site to deal with the repercussions of. Living very rural, my choices for shopping are somewhat limited without driving really far. I can say that particularly in the last year, incorrect pricing, leading to over charging, has gotten really bad. My Walmart is removing price tags from many items (particularly clothing), and it does not ring up at the posted price at the register. I've been charged an extra $1 - $6 dollars on some items. Posted prices on signs and shelves are not always what it rings up as. I've gotten to writing posted prices down on my list as I shop, so I know when it rings up. Those $1 - $6 differences may be small on one shopper, but add up how many people go through there every day. You really need to pay attention now. And when you have to question it, the eye rolling and irritation from some employees is ridiculous. Like I did this on purpose so I can waste some more of my day dealing with it? Sorry, I'm not making a donation to Walmart today, just paying for what I bought, that I had to scan and bag myself, which I didn't get a discount for. And I was told that the removal of price tags is coming from corporate. I've gone to only getting what I absolutely have to there now, and paying a little more elsewhere for some things. It seems to be the way things (don't) work everywhere now.
Some people may not notice the difference! That of course is what Walmart wants! Just a new way for them to make even more money! That`s what everything is about anymore cut quality, package less product and charge more! What a concept! The wealthy can`t make enough money it becomes a sickness that never ends! I won`t have to worry about that! We have enough to get by and that`s fine! 😊

It`s a great place to vent and maybe even get a chuckle or two! 😅

Very true! Crap rolls downhill!

I can say that particularly in the last year, incorrect pricing, leading to over charging, has gotten really bad.

I noticed a big change during the COVID period. Lots of items were not scanning at the correct price displayed on the shelf.

I've gotten to writing posted prices down on my list as I shop, so I know when it rings up.

Especially those sale items you thought you were getting a good deal on, only to find them scanning at the regular price - or even higher!

And when you have to question it, the eye rolling and irritation from some employees is ridiculous. Like I did this on purpose so I can waste some more of my day dealing with it? Sorry, I'm not making a donation to Walmart today,

:lau I hear you. I was scanning out some cup of noodles and they came out about 10 cents more per item. I called over for assistance and got the attitude it was only a dime per cup, so what's the big deal. To which I responded it's a 30% markup over your displayed price! The young girl could not understand that concept. Like you, I'm thinking selling a pallet or two of those cup of soups at every store in the country for 30% over the displayed price means real money to the store overall.

:tongue A few days later, I was back in the store, and the display price had not changed - no surprise. There was another young girl in that isle stocking the shelves. I asked her to come over and tell me how much those soups would cost. She pulled out her scanner and told me the price. I pointed out that the display price on the shelf was 10 cents less. Her response was that it was OK, it will scan at the correct price at the register! I gave up.

I've gone to only getting what I absolutely have to there now, and paying a little more elsewhere for some things.

Dear Wife does most of our household shopping. When I do need to pick up some groceries, I have started going to Aldi, which just opened in our town. They don't have as much variety, but the prices often are lower than WalMart. Plus, I can get in and out of Aldi in minutes. So far, their display prices have been the same at checkout.

:love Dear Wife is definitely one of those people who don't pay much attention to the checkout price. I ask her how much something costs in the grocery bag, and she just does not know. It does not matter to her. If she needs it, or wants it, she picks it up. She came from a country where you shopped for food everyday. So, she never developed the idea of buying stuff on sale and stocking a pantry.

:old I grew up in a family of 7 where I don't think my parents ever bought anything unless it was on sale or in a bulk economy pack. That's how we survived back in the day.

When I was in the Navy, we used to say "Morale starts at the top." I think that holds true for almost every organization I know of.

Yes, I think venting is helpful in releasing some of negativity I was feeling yesterday. I appreciate all the comments from the members. I was really worked up yesterday, but I'm feeling better now. Thanks.
