Like everyone else we found that one hatch was just not enough. But our brooder is full, the grow-out pens are full, and the feed bill is already at the point The Boss is starting to complain.

So, what to do?

We decided to hatch eggs for other people! A co-worker loves blue and black Orpingtons and has lamented at the difficulty in finding birds locally so when she found out that we'd bought an incubator she asked if we'd hatch some eggs for her. We hadn't yet hatched our own yet so I said if we had a good success rate with our first hatch we'd do some for her as well. I put them in the box last night. One of our 4-H club members shows birds herself but hasn't been hatching all of the eggs her birds lay. I put seven of hers in the box last night as well (Old English game bantams). When the hatch is finished the chicks all go back to the owners and we get the hatching experience.

Hopefully the Kinder Major's Silkies will start laying soon and we can hatch some of those as well. They're show birds and are taking the longest time...

.....Alan.

I'm just about to put an ad on Craigslist to help find homes for some of my EE/x chicks. I ordered eggs from various members on BYF but of course I added bunches of my own eggs to the incubator, each time, to test the hatch. Just about all of my eggs hatched so now I have chicks of various ages quickly outgrowing the kitchen brooder

. I really enjoy the whole process of hatching the eggs so I would like to be able to hatch eggs for other people also.

A great FREE classified ad site! Has its pros and cons of course, just like anything else, but definitely worth checking out!
