Want a mixed flock of laying hens?

I got my golden comets from Tractor Supply, and they bought them here http://www.mthealthy.com/product/GC-P They are 1 1/2 years old, and have always been very healthy.

My australorp is broody now She is

my first broody hen, and I specifically chose australorps for broodiness. I do not have any experience with Welsumer and Delawares.

Chickens are fun! I got mine for eggs and had no idea I would end up a bit obsessed with raising chickens. That never even crossed my mind!

Oh yes, she (australorp) is only about 6 months old and has only been laying about a month. I think broodiness is pretty common with this breed. My neighbor's went broody right away, and someone else on this forum was asking about broodiness, waiting for hers..and then she said, my australorp went broody!

I bet they are great birds, Rhode Island Red female mixed with Columbian Rock rooster. I was looking further at this site. They seem to specialize in hybrids. I like hybrids. I'm experimenting myself. I think I might have a Tetra Tint in a couple weeks, and probably a black star or two

we found that hand raised babies are more friendly than mother raised so we now are focusing on incubating our eggs or take them from the mother after hatching

My buff brahma lays a pinkish tinted egg, medium sized. My barred rocks and australorps are the smallest. The BR are dark, round, and tiny. The australorps are very light in color, long and thin. Its been fun trying to figure out who lays which lol I can always find my comets and leghorns though! One of my australorps is broody now. I'm very excited about the babies. Oh I hope the hatch is successful..

Ours is the opposite... our BR is light and long and our BA is darker and round.

Now I hatch most my chicks. I keep a couple, then sell the rest.

I'm up to 17 in my flock right now. We were only going to a total of 2.lol
