I've dropped hints, I have reasoned until blue in the face, I've even raged a bit, but there are certain members of my family who, unfortunately, still think of me as a raving animal rights activist just because I'd get upset at my cousins for shooting frogs when I was in grade school, and they take my advice with a grain of salt and are intent on setting this duck free on whatever lake they come across . . . this duck that has been a lone duck since ducklinghood, and known no other companions than people and the dog it was kept with.

Quite frankly, I've known people to do this, but the fact that I am related to the person doing the dumping and I still can't convince her that this is a stupid and illegal idea is making me lose my calm . . . I'm on the verge of telling her she's an idiot, and when things like that start happening it never does anyone any good. I know all the reasoning and good sense in the world has trouble standing up to one gut wrenching picture, so I'd like an arsenal of terrible imagery from reputable sources to back me up if at all possible. Would duck rescues have that type of information? How would I find and contact them?

Thanks, I know this is an odd request. I grew up loving to visit this duck, so if this doesn't work I will be taking the duck, claiming I found it a home (which I have been trying to do to no avail), and humanely dispatching it, so no one needs to worry about this duck being dumped, at least. I won't let it have that fate, the poor thing.

I'm assuming you've tried looking this up on the computer? That's so sad, why in the world would anybody think any animal that has been raised in captivity and taken care of it's whole life, could survive on it's own in the wild?! I wish i lived in TX... I'd take him/her!! Have you tried listing on craigslist? I've had very good luck with finding extra chicks homes that way.

Even if you do wind up taking the duck yourself, In my opinion, that is much kinder than dumping her... And definitely more responsible.

I've tried craigslist and a notice in a few of feed stores. The people who would take her are several hours out of the way . . . I wish I lived in a smaller state sometimes. I found a duck rescue, and they sent me information on legal matters but didn't have pictures or anything like that. I am googling and hoping I hit on something, but I thought I'd try posting here because I seem to remember a thread where someone posted the sort of stuff I'm asking for. I may be mistaken, because search isn't bringing up anything recognizable. Thanks for replying.

Geez, google is proof of there being such a thing as too much information . . .

Please send an email to [email protected]. Tell him Laurie aka TennesseeTruly told you to email him. He can tell you and probably has pictures of the horror of ducks and geese that are released into the wild.

Jamie runs a duck rescue in Utah. He may know of someone close to you who can help you. He has had so many ducks & geese dumped onto a local pond that have been killed by predators. Once dumped, their fate is certain.

Good luck.

Laurie

Take it to your local aspca. They will take it in and find it a good home. No reason to 'dispatch" it when you have other options. ASPCA is the way to go.

and humanely dispatching it

.......why don't you just keep it? O_O

tell them YOU want it..it ain't that hard to rig up a setting for a ducks..

I'm sorry, maybe I'm freakishly obsessed with ducks, but I can't see taking a healthy, young? duck and killing it for no reason other than your relatives don't want it.

One of her sets is all about dumped ducks.

There are graphic images here.

To me, this speaks volumes. This duck died soon after this was taken. Probably the first kindness she had in a while. She was a dumped duck who was overmated, then hit by a car.
