hi. I just started with 16 chicks for eggs april'13, down to 12. 4 went to family. we wish to add 5 Guinea for pest n warnings, 2 turkeys, 2 peafowl n 6 more chickens. coop is 12'x8' figure all new hatchlings will need to b in own brooder by fowl type but how long??
I have already hinted on larger coop, just finished this one. also some of the birds listed will go in freezer, run we building going to be 100'x 80' (estimate)isn't 4 ft per bird??n with run that is bonus??
what I mostly am asking is when they first arrive, do brood them together or apart?? when to join them? I am limited on free ranging too many raptors
Your posts somewhat contradict one another... First you said you'd brood all the birds in their own brooders, but indicated that you wanted to put them all together eventually. Granted, you did not say it straight out, but it sure seemed to be what you were trying to say. Second post - you mentioned hinting at a second coop. Not that I saw. And are counting on 4 ft./bird being enough, even a "bonus". Third post - limited on free ranging due to raptors - you did not mention that you planned on free ranging the guineas when they were big enough. You also asked again when you can "join them". So please do not get defensive when you ask questions and get answers you don't like if you don't give us all the details to begin with. As far as your family members raising "all those birds plus 4 times over together in a collapsed barn"... How big was the barn? If it was collapsed, did they just roost in there? Just because someone crowds a bunch of birds together and they don't all die, it does not mean it was a good, healthy environment for them. Think about the health and quality of life for your flock before you go crazy getting cute little baby birds that will grow into large ones that will need plenty of space - not to mention food and care.I am building run estimated smallest 100'x80, I had family who had those birds plus 4 times over together in collapsed barn. I only plan to raise two turkeys to 18, Guinea will free range once large enough. some ppl, geez
