We started with a dozen, then bought 5 more, then bought 7 more. We then bought 8 more this spring that were pretty much full grown. We then have had 11 hatch from our eggs and we bought 2 dozen (plus) more. We raise them in a pen with a fence yard for 4-6 months before letting them free range. Our original flock will still roost in their coop at night but the others roost in the trees. This next flock we are raising we will teach to roost in their coop like we did the first ones. I don't like them being in the trees at night. We have only lost 2 to predetors but then again we are coming up on that time of year where I expect we may loose some with summer coming.
