Want to buy roosters

I would like to buy a couple of roosters but I'm not sure where/how to find them. I would like to have an Ameracuana or Cream Legbar rooster as well as a Welsummer or BCM rooster. I have a confined coop, so the mellower and younger the better to get them to socialize with people and each other. I'm not sure how to go about finding them.

I am able to incubate eggs if necessary. I would really prefer to have pure breeds. I live in NW Ohio and am willing to travel an hour or two to fetch them. Also, are Ameracauna and Welsummer the mellowist varieties that have blue/very dark egg genes?

I’ve had some very flighty Welsummers and Ameraucanas so I wouldn’t take it for granted that supposed docile breeds will be good roosters or anything. It’s always a gamble. That being said I think Facebook marketplace might be a good place to start-they usually have local classifieds

Oh what a shame you are so far from me..I have 2 young males that need a home. Ermine Ameraucanas. They are beautiful and will make pretty chicks. So far they have been pretty mellow with my daughter and I. They carry the blue egg gene, being Ameraucanas.

Since you are in Ohio, I wanted to also suggest you look at Buckeyes. They look so cool and their epicenter for stock *should* be Ohio.

And for laid-back, Brahma roosters have been very chill in my limited experience.

I have read someone who are different breeds of chicken and they said Welsummers were the worst and several people said Dorking was the best. So if you plan on eating roosters eventually, factor that in.

You can check local livestock groups on fb, in your area. Usually they are 1-2 counties for the group. We have a couple of breeders less than an hour away and they have a Very good following. One young boy just turned 16 and has been doing this over 2 years. His family is involved in Ag. He does local fairs, state fair and has some ribbons. The other is 19 and the same.

Make sure you check their posts/comments to see how long they have been around. How many followers they have, etc. Both are NPIP and state AI clean. Check out the ones you are looking at.
