Hey I'm looking to buy a few laying hens I'm in Sioux falls SD willing to travel quite a ways. Or is there a website to order from that is good? Any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome to backyard chickens !!
if you can tell us what breed of hens you're looking for, that will be a big help. then we can help you find where to buy them.
Thanks so much ,

If you are interested in Marans, trying checking out Cypress Duck Farm site. I have used them regularly and have been very happy. I am close enough to take a drive and pick up hatching eggs and pullets, so I have seen the facility and spoken with Dan Barger. This is my go to as I raise Marans, very nice place and Dan is a very nice caring man. Good luck.

Thanks Karen. we are looking for orpingtons or other cold hardy breeds that are good beginner chickens.

So you must be in a cold area . probably want to stay away from the single comb breeds. look for rosecomb or cushion combs. They yend to bebmore cold hardy because you don't have to worry about the Combs getting frostbite. the single Combs can have a problem with that. and then they don't feel like mating until the Combs on the cockrell's are healed. that can push your breeding season forward by 2 months or more.
Buckeyes, Chanteclers, etc. All good choices.
Best,
Karen
