I don't have any chickens yet, but want to learn what I can so I can convince the hubs it's a good thing. Live in the Imperial Valley where summer temps can reach 120+ and lots of people have chickens. I need to learn how to build a coop, feed and water as well as shelter them. I am interested in Easter eggers or Amaraucanas, since they tolerate heat I have heard.
I want to put their coop at the south end of my garden which will get shade in the very hot afternoons. I plan to let them forage for bugs since my garden is a bug factory and I have open compost for them to rummage through. I mainly want them for eggs, but need to know what to do at the end of their life cycle.
