Well I am wanting to start hatching quite a few eggs and I am also wanting to have a nice brooder for my chick to grow in. I am looking for some links to DIY brooders but I am tired of searching through all the pages of stuff. I am wanting the kind that I can hang the feeders and waters on the outside if possible. If you could please point me in the right direction that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

you can do what i did if you have room. we built a 4x4 wood box. a board over head can hold the feeder and waterer. it worked great. was easy to clean. i put chicken wire on top with a door that opens from the top, we also made a panel on the front that opens so we could also use it as a growing out coop

like a 2 stage brooder ( like the baby cribs they make now that can be used in 3 stages)

it holds 18 chicks to 8 weeks with no problems , we moved them , with it to a baby run at 6 weeks

anyway you could post pictures of the brooder that you built? I have all kinds of room.
I really dont want to spend that much on it so the galvanized stock feeder is out but it is a great idea, it is exactly what out Cal ranch store does.

There is a killer thread on this forum about brooders w/ fabulous photos of most of them. I know it was the first very long thread that I completely viewed. There hundreads of pages and over a thousand responses. Well worth a search!

I built one out of a dresser. 4' long, 3' wide and 18" deep. Put a plywood top on the back2', covered the rest with chicken wire. I put a roost in it for the chicks. I put chicken wire on the bottom, but changed my mind and put the backof the dresser on the wire to hold the shavings. 2 doors with chicken wir in front allows access and cleaning. I use bricks to set the food and water on. Works great for me. I also put it on 2' legs, no bending.
