I want to move my hens around to dig the weeds in areas of my yard they haven't been allowed to forage in pre-fence.
But they aren't spring chicks anymore. I presently have a couple of gates, a garage and a doorway between where the hens are, and where the weeds are. I will be cutting a gate to bypass the garage, and getting gates on my newly fenced areas. I have found a fresh bowl of oatmeal to be a great help getting from the backyard into the run, but the one time I let them in the pond area they were quite confused about how to get "home". (loyal birds, but not bright).
I have considered a tractor, open bottom, that I can roll around my other lot, but hand-carrying 6 full size hens, or even 3 full size hens, from point A to point B could be hazardous to the hens, if they get loose outside my fence and a neighbor's dog is loose. I think they are too big for my small dog carrier, they might fit one at a time, but how to get them in it. Ideas anyone?
