I'm thinking about getting a few baby chicks to add to the flock but it's sweltering hot here in the southwest, dry heat but it's going to be 110-112 ish for the next couple of weeks looks like? I have plenty of shade and grassy 1 acre but should I wait until fall to get them? I've never had chicks here in the summer

Are you talking shipping hatchlings?

If it were me, I wouldn't do mail order hatchlings at this time with that heat. 110 - 112 degrees outside is hot enough but what do you think it will get in a truck closed up with no moving air for hours maybe all day. Spring and fall are best times to ship for weather reasons. Can you find chicks locally?

Hi there! I live with those temps too, it sucks! Anyway, it really depends. Chicks seem to deal with the heat a little better than adults, but waiting until fall will be easier on everyone including you.
