Hi guys,
Im building my chicken coop on a budget $120 and just wanted to share with you that the best place I found to save is a habitat for humanity restore... I saved $130 on my roof alone with all quality practicaly new lumber so if you have one in your area it's worth a look!
I saved $130 on the roof

$1.50 on hinges :P

$70 on plywood

$25 on glass

$15 on paint

and $100 on the framing and extra materials so... Its worth the time !

Way to go. I actually had plenty of scrap lumber laying around that I only had to spend about $75 on hardware and a few 2x4's for framing. Haven't painted yet, that is still to come.

I love the one near us! I got really nice double thickness windows (no broken glass) for $5. each. I will be getting some paint there soon. I also got a free door that has a doggie-door that is just the right size for chickens! I cut out the plastic flap and it is perfect.

Our Habitat store must be horrible. Can't find anything work anything there. Even hinges and hooks are either overpriced or too small. Really, I can pay $5 for a new one I'm not paying that for a used one! or $22 for an open package of shingles that have been sitting, exposed to the elements for a year! I have been in our store weekly for a 6 weeks now. BUT, they did just do a big re-organizing. Over half the space was storage. It was filled to the brim with stuff but, nothing you could look at! So, I'll be heading back there this weekj to check it out, hopefully the "new" space will have more stuff out to buy instead of sitting in a warehouse.

The closest habitat store to me is about 35 miles, or there is one 75 miles away......not a great choice lately with gas prices at $4.19
