Hey all,
I wanted to share this tip. I use cardboard boxes (who doesn't order from Amazon....lol)
I cut an opening big enough for the chicks and start using this in their outdoor brooder. They home to the box.

Once I am ready to remove the barrier of the brooder, I still continue to use said box and add others to the run and coop.

(I cut a section from the top, just haven't done it in this pic yet)

This box is the one I hide the food and water in for the chicks, to be certain they always have access, and that the older birds can't keep them from being fed.

There are also 3 other feed and water stations.

Pizza boxes work well too as far as clutter and hide aways go...if your older birds don't knock them down....

The point of the box is some protection, but also a hide away. It also serves as an easy catch space for when the birds need to learn to go to the coop if they don't automatically go for the box in the coop.

I reach in the top, pull out the chicks one by one and relocate them to the box in the coop. They soon start using the box in the coop and after some time I remove it and the just go into the coop. No chasing little birds around the run to get them into the coop at night. It's a pretty easy task when I use the boxes.

I also place their heat board inside the box in the brooder, but not once the brooder comes down.

Just thought I'd share the idea đź’ˇ
