Want to start raising chickens

I'll cast another vote for Barred Rocks just because they're my personal favorite. Meyer hatchery sells an all pullet rainbow pack, you get an assortment of different breeds. The drawback is the hatchery chooses the breeds for you. You may have to order a few BR chicks seperately if you don't get any

It's fun to get chicks of several breeds, and see what appeals to you. Henderson's Chicken Chart, feathersite, the Cackle and MurrayMcMurray catalogs, all have good photos and information. I would add Speckled Sussex, the friendliest ever hens, and Chanteclers, to your list. Mary
 
LEGHORNS. They are a light breed, lay loads of eggs and amazing feed conversion rates.
