Want to use dog kennel/pen for housing meat birds.

Here is a picture of ours. I have included a front on this. So now they have a little open door. Seems to work well for us and they seem to like it to.

It's about an 8X10 house for them and that doesn't include the run area.

Acre,

How old are yours now? Do you add a light to the pen? How long do I have to keep a light on them in this weather?

Ours are 3 weeks old today and yes I have a light int he pen. I just leave the light on at night and then cut it off in the morning when the sun is up. Then when the sun is about all the way set, I cut it back on.

hmmmm I am still learning this stuff. I thought they needed to be under light in the cold weather since they don't have many feathers.

about moving the kennels.
We take some pvc piping, either a long 2 inch piece that is wide than the width of the cage, lift the kennel over it on one end, and then go to the other end of the cage and push it across the lawn. I have a chicken tractor that my friend made, but its so HEAVY... Hubby had some 4 inch aluminum pipes but they were too heavy for me, so I got an 4 foot length of 4 or 5 inch pvc, cut it in half, and then lift two front ends ontop of that and push the tractor to the side. The tractor thingy is still heavy but I CAN move it myself, but usually wait until my girls are home to help me. We move the chicken tractor, which we keep ducks in, every 2 days. My friend has the 15X 6.5 ft kennels that we move around the yard with the pvc piping too. That way, you can do it with two people instead of four. The pvc piping stayed out in the yard and we just put it close to the cage alongside the edge when not in use.
Hope this helps.
