Ok so i have 5 quail chicks who i recently vent sexed, and i saw none of the "shiny round bumps" that i was supposed to see on a male. The problem is, I want a male so that i can have fertile eggs from my quail to hatch when they grow up. If none of them turn out to be male, then how am i supposed to get a tame male? If i get an adult known to be male, it wont have been hand raised by me and wont have bonded to me. if i get more chicks, then #1 i might get too many chicks #2 the same thing might happen again. Someone please help me.

What type of quail do you have?

How old?

I have pharoh cotournix. The females will have a tan breast that's spotted.

Males will have a reddish breast. Kinda look like a robin.

If you want a male for sure find a local breeder and buy an older one that has been sexed for sure.

I don't treat mine as pets so tame doesn't really matter to me. All mine are fairly calm.

2 of them are i'm guessing a week old, another 2 i'm guessing 1.5 weeks, the third maybe 2-2.5 weeks. Pretty sure the last is female, but it's chest isn't feathered in all the way yet, soo we'll just have to find out.
With my kind, the males have a tan breast with no spots, but it doesn't come in until later and #1. I'm afraid my mom doesn't want to put up with me making her drive for so long to get the quail, so i'd rather get all of them that i need asap with as few trips as possible (live poultry is illegal in my city so we have to drive long distances to get any) #2 I am impatient #3 as soon as the school year starts all my quail have to be adults so that they can deal with me being one all day, so i'd like to get everything as early as possible so that they will grow up.
it is very important that my quail be tame, but i maybe could get an older chick that can still be partially tamed that i would know the gender, and just not handle that chick as much as i do the others. Thank you! :)

YouTube can teach you how to cull your unwanted quail. Get as many as you need up front...
If I wanted 8 females I would buy 17-18 chicks and plan a BBQ.

i couldn't handle it. i know it sounds pathetic, and that's because it is. i love all animals. sorry for the lack of capitalization but a chick is asleep in my hand right now.
