Wanted: Indestructible vacuum cleaner

We have a in house vacuum system. Expensive as all get out to install back in the 70's, but there is an outlet accessible to every room and the main unit is downstairs, with the majority of the dust spewed right out the back of the house. Quiet in every room except the room with the main vacuum box. Just stick in the hose in the outlet and off you go. Not that useful though if you ever need to move!

Hi, My wife and I bought a Royal (Kirby style) vac. Liked it because it has metal impeller blades. Bought it 13 yrs ago. No repairs-- just a belt every year or so and filter bags. Was expensive but over time all of friends vacs "bit it" Not a pretty vac but very stout. Hop e this helps, Good luck , John

We have a Dyson too, I think it's the Animal. We've had it for a bunch of years now. It works better than anything else we've had. We've got three dogs, two cats and a rabbit as well as a very outdoorsy son. DH is probably the worst contributor to mess though, lol. We had to save for it for a while but it was worth it IMO.

My bagless bissel is five years old and works like brand new. I have used it to clean rental houses for real estate companies and used it in my house and vehicles. I just maintain it well just like I would any other machine. After every use I dump and wash trash canister and wash filter housing above it. I also clean all filters after every use. It only takes a couple minutes.I have never clogged it but my wife has many times. 20 minutes or less a screwdriver and some patience its strong as new. It only cost me 60 bucks. Before I had it I had a kenmore canister vac over ten years that I rescued from being trashed. I brought it back to life with a proper cleaning. I bet it was 20 years old when I got it. I gave it away still running strong when I got my bagless upright. I have rescued many clogged vacs from the landfill over the years. I cleaned them and sold them to a guy at a flea market working like brand new. Many vacuums get trashed because of a simple clog. Maintenance is everything.

I saw Kohl's had Dysons on sale a few weeks ago. Don't know if they still do, but they were just under $400.00, I think. I was tempted to get one; just didn't quite have the money. I'm glad to hear other people have the same problem with vaccuums; they drive me nuts!

I have had hoover vacs and i have even had electrolux that both lasted forever too......but they........even on their best days would NEVER compare to DYSON

I think one of the better things is the way they do not make smells in the house. My husband has asthma and allergies and the others made him sick........This one is good for people with allergies.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I made DH come in from outside and listen to what everyone had to say on the subject and to prove to him that I am NOT the only one who goes through vacs "like Liz goes through husbands".
He just laughed and shook his head. But he is off to the store to buy a new one. He actually did say he would fork out the $350 that Sears has for a Dyson on sale. But the thought of "YIKES,

what if I end up doing something to it" scared the bejeezers out of me so I just told him to get what he thought was best. So we'll see what he comes home with.

Back to clearing the table from Easter dinner.

Oreck oreck oreck.

I've had their upright and it just keeps going and going and going - had it 10 yrs and that the longest I've EVER had a vaccuum.

My favorite things about it - it will pick up bird seed on a lineoleum floor - doesn't kick it out the back like most other vacs do. Also, it is very light and very powerful.

And best of all - ITS VERY SIMPLE. If you clog it, there is pushbutton releases on the tubing - just take it apart, clean out the clog and right back together it goes.

I've had to replace the roller brush one time when my DH sucked up the edge of the fringe rug with it, new belts and bags, of course, but other than that it's going strong.

I just bought their large green canister not too long ago and it's great too. I moved the old vac out to my sewing hut and use the canister inside and it's as good or better than the electrolux that cost my mom 2-3x as much.

I looked at the Dysons before I got my new Oreck canister and just heard too many things about them wearing out quickly - so went with Oreck since i knew their products are great and are well established.

I LOVE my oreck!!

I had an Oreck years ago and I loved the simpleness of it. Also it was easy on the arm muscles

Well, DH called on his way home and he bought a Shark Infinity. So we'll see......
