I just found out that we can have ducks along with chickens I would love to get ducks for eggs does anyone have advice on
1. what ducks lay the most eggs
2. what do you feed ducks (not sure if ducks and chickens can eat same food)
3. do they need a coop like chickens or just a pen and place to get out of the weather
4. what is a good number to start with
5. will a kids pool work of water or do I need to make a outside pond.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

1. what ducks lay the most eggs
Runners, Welsh Harlequins and Khaki Cambells.
2. what do you feed ducks (not sure if ducks and chickens can eat same food)
Many chicken and duck owners do feed them the same feed. I feed gamebird feed because I also have quail.
3. do they need a coop like chickens or just a pen and place to get out of the weather
A pen and a place to get out of the weather is great.
4. what is a good number to start with
3 or so. This lets you give them a lot of attention. It leads to very friendly ducks.
5. will a kids pool work of water or do I need to make a outside pond.
Either one. Ducks aren't that picky. Uno preferred a water bowl

While I have a pond with a filter system I made for the ducks (link in signature), we have a hawk problem. Now they are in a kiddie pool in covered run.

The pond liner and pump were bought used off a neighbor for $50. Spring is a great time to get pond liners from garage sales.

Thank you for all the help one other question do ducks and chickens get along will they free range together and do you have to have a male duck for your female ducks to lay eggs thanks for any help

You only need a drake if you want the eggs to be fertile. Ducks will still lay eggs- and sometimes go broody - without a drake - But they just wont be fertile eggs.

As for the free ranging question.. I dont keep chickens- so will be leaving that part for someone with more experience. I know a lot of people do keep them together- but Im sure there will be those who wish to give you some personal details of any issues they have had.

Having a drake, you will want to have at least three females for him. He might prefer six or seven! Any fewer than three females puts them at risk of injury by mating.
