I have 11 chickens, one rooster and 10 hens. If I notice one of the hens going broody this spring do I start collecting the eggs and keep them in an egg carton at room temperature until I move the broody hen away from the rest of the flock and then place 6 or 8 eggs under the broody hen at night? Ive been reading up on this but some of the answers are not clear cut. I really didnt think I would have to buy fertilized eggs if I have a rooster. How long can you keep the eggs before you place them under the broody hen and am I correct to keep them at room temperatures?

Thanks for any advice!! Penny
