Wants to eat potting soil?

My girls are always on the compost heap! No matter how loud I crow, they still scratch and eat that stuff! I wish daddy didn't put it there, next to my coop! You didn't know a rooster could type did ya?

Does it have pearlite or vermiculite in it? Is it amended with fertilizer? These reasons alone are enough for me to keep the birds out of the potting soil.

My paranoia with this makes me check the composition of any soil-type products I bring into my yard. I do have potting soil in a few pots, but they're well away from the chickens and so far they haven't noticed it yet...
