I drowned them cos one of my mates wants to get one stuffed..... there are now 2 ferrets in my freezer

Ah, okay. I thought so based on how the fur looked on them, just wasn't sure

I hope you can get ahold of enough half inch steel mesh to keep any other predators out of the coop. When wildlife makes a habit of getting food from people, it sometimes costs the wildlife their lives.

Rats can get in, and will chew through wood to enter the coop too.

I think ferrets are native there, just like how the black footed ferrets used to be common in the US

we have a cousin of the weasel here called a Stoat....... they are just as nasty and smaller and harder to catch

Its all part of life I spose......... it is a real bummer but there is nothing I can do now... apart from trap and kill the buggers!

I will be ferreting out ferrets as long as there are ferrets to ferret out

Haha - I'm glad you didn't take offense at the off color timing of the joke. I was going to take it out, but all the Kiwis I know (2 - lol) love dark humor jokes -even in times of sadness. Laughing is important! I wish we could all get on that train.
