Rats can get in, and will chew through wood to enter the coop too.

Don't know about Down Under but in many states in the USA that's illegal. Besides they will come back.

I think only wild Black Footed Ferrets are protected in the USA not the pet farm raised Ferrets

They're an invasive species there so theoretically, unfortunately, they're probably "normal" everywhere with a food source
