And the problem is no one takes the time to figure the risks long term!Nature is a delicate balance. We upset it at our own risk.

And I think you would have every rightYou could probably do that in Alaska like that one guy said, since the population is so sparse there may not be any other chicken ranchers for the ferrets to bother, but here in the Lower 48 it's more likely you would be making them somebody else's problem. And if some misguided soul made them MY problem I would curse them quite soundly!
What a handsome, beautiful bird!I had taken a few pics of him not long before he was killed

They are usually very gentle and make great pets. I adopted one that on first meeting attacked when trying to feed it. It had been starved and was extremely hungry. After 3 days and lots of food it was a really sweet pet. To many people tend to get caged/ aquarium type critters and don't look up their needs or don't care. It's sad these animals suffer being starved sometimes to deathsorry for your loss.
for a second there i thought you had a weird colored marten lol then i realized it was a ferret.
they must be pretty nasty (being in the weasel family) i don't like them as i got attacked by one in a pet store as a kid.
No one ever thinks they have a lot of predators, but as you found out the sad way, they will find your chickens. Hardware cloth is the only thing that stops them.As I said we dont have a lot of Predators here..... no raccoons, minks, coyotes, skunks, bobcats, bears, or snakes
Where do you live? I need to know. Next time I live trap a predator/any predator-i want to know where to rehome it. I don't wanna release it just anywhere, why give my problem to someone else? I need your address so I can rehome my predator to someone that understands. Here’s a solution! Or two.
Don‘t kill them. Shape up your coop.
Relocate them.
Find some other humane way to do it.
Chookwagn never asked for assistance*If you wish to suggest an alternate non lethal means of control, please share it in a non judgmental way that is a viable solution and not merely complaining about who was here first etc, IF it is directly related to the OP's request for assistance.
The bolded part was the point I was trying to make.Chookwagn never asked for assistance
