@HappyDuckie why are you angry facing me?

Not a wise move.....

The difference is that these animals have been released into an environment where they have no natural predators whatsoever so can reproduce with absolutely no limits. We have a lot of pest animals that were released into New Zealand that are out of control and absolutely decimating our native wildlife. Many of our native animals are only safe on predator free offshore islands. That's the only place they can be safe because these animals just kill them because they are easy targets.

I used to be soft hearted too thinking I could never kill anything, but since moving to the country it's been very easy to do our bit and eliminate certain predators and pests from our block of land. We are proud of each and every possum and rat and mouse that we are able to kill in our humane traps that kill instantly. Yes, I feel sorry for the animals that do have to be killed, but they are in an environment that they were never meant to be in and they do not belong here. By killing them we are actually saving countless lives of animals who do belong here.

It's a huge change in attitude but I would love to see a Kakapo in real life but sadly I probably never will. They are the most beautiful birds, and they were saved from extinction but are only safe on three offshore islands. Unless you work for the Department of Conservation you'll never see one. I'd love to hear Kiwi calling at night, but between feral cats, rats, Australian brush-tail possums, ferrets, stoats, weasels, and peoples dogs going on killing rampages, I don't, and I should living where we do. We now see it as our responsibility to do our bit to save our native animals, and by trapping possums, also saving our native plants and trees.
That I understand, and I'm sorry that the state of the island has had to harden you like that but I do understand, and cannot say I wouldn't feel the same in your shoes.

Also, humane/instant killing is a lot more merciful and respectful than drowning and posting greusome pictures boasting of the deed. Maybe that's what rubbed me the wrong way. My cousin has a pet ferret. Also, native ferrets and mustelids are endangered here, so that influenced some of my feelings, as well.

I understand your ethical responsibility, and thank you for sharing
