Warning graphic injury.Will she be bald ?

My Americanaa was attacked almost two weeks ago. I brought her in and for several days took care of her even letting her in the house So I would watch her. She seems to be recovering well , back outside and locked in the coop every night to avoid future attacks from whatever it i running around at night. (They are free range) She is eatting and drinking and active , but from the look of the injury I don't see how she will grow back any feathers? The skin there is completely gone, yet there was never any blood.

For there to be feathers, there needs to be skin containing feather follicles. If that is bone we are looking at, over time if things are ideal, the wound may contract and cover that area with skin again- but likely there will be few or no feathers. Feathers may cover it somewhat from further forward. Healing if it can happen, will take a long time as naked dry bone is not a happy place for skin to grow over- it may not be able to do it.

I had a hen attacked by other chickens. Her bottom was in very bad shape and it looked as if her skin was gone. After about two weeks you could see new growth from feathers and 4 weeks later you could see any injury. Give it some time. She may heal very nicely.

Can she heal if it is bone which I think it is ? She appear fine, I keep putting ointment on it to help promote healing. People freak because way he look , but she is just so sweet. Only half of her face is like this, other side is normal.

If that's bone, I doubt she will heal, but I've seen miracles before so don't give up.

I'm amazed that she is even alive!

I might try and keep her separated from the others a bit longer and put some antibiotic ointment around the edges just to keep it free from infection on a regular basis..

My rooster was attacked and looked just like that but maybe worse. I found him under a tree and I thought he was going to die. I brought him in and kept him under a heat lamp, gave him gatorade through a straw, fed him green beans by hand, kept antobiotic ointment on his head and he recovered in about a week. He lost his eye during the wole ordeal but he still watches over his hens and is top rooster. Good Luck!

She seemed happier when she got returned with her buddies. Appears she was the leader of the pack. I am putting ointment on her, she does look like she might loose her eye. I'm pampering her.

Wow!!!! The picture is to blurry to see the fine details of your hens face. Good for you not to give up on her. Is her beak there? It is to hard to tell in the photo.

Yes her beak is unharmed. I can take some other pictures tomorrow, my daughter took that photo. It does look better each day. I spent several days with her hand feeding and feeding her sugar water from a spoon. I am still worried for her, I looked up trying to find out if a chicken can live with this type of injury and found nothing.
