So I learned another valuable lesson today. The next time I drive 2 hours to buy hatching eggs, I will know more about what not to buy. Dirty, weird shaped, HUGE eggs are not good
I started with 24 eggs...put 12 in the incubator with two of those being double yolked eggs. I ended up with 5 chicks today. I took the two twin eggs out and opened them. The first one was so bad that I couldn't take a picture...that was the egg that was wobbling for two days and stopped. It was twins but it was almost like one had absorbed parts of the other. Lots of yolk still left. This one had two embryos that were clearly separate but still so under developed. If I ever suspect another double yolk egg again, I won't incubate it. I just didn't know. Live and learn
I have some eggs in my other incubator that a friend have me...a couple of silkies, EE , and 3 Wyandottes. When they hatch, I'm done for a while....if they hatch
The humidity here is so bad in the summer and my incubators aren't the best. They will be sold before spring when I decide I'm ready again. The little spraddle legged chick is doing fine now and so are the other 4. I wanted a cream legbar pullet so bad but both are boys! We had two of them and 3 black copper marans. Guess time will tell with them. Tired and ready to go outside to see my big chickens
thanks for all of your help these past few weeks
