****WARNING GRAPHIC PICS*****(I got finally got them)

A black bear showed up this Spring probly 20 yards from my coops. 30 miles South of Cinti. Ohio. He was sighted this Spring many times but left our chickens alone.
Its the mink we cant seem to catch.

I know, I wish they were ugly like opossums!

They sure would be a lot easier to shot. But then I think of all the chickens and chicks I have lost to them and it makes it easier.

Or wouldn't it be great if the were vegetarians! LOL

We had been having a coyote problem a while back but we finally set up some foot hold traps with a goose carcass as bait. Yum.

I hope you get the big one! Luckily our coup is pretty varmint proof, but they get to free range during the day and that always makes me worry.

Where I grew up there were no coons... then when I was a teenager, someone bought a coon dog and had the bright idea that shucks if'n he had coon dogs, he ought to have coons to hunt. Well somehow he got some coons and the rest is history. They raid the chicken coops, they eat feed, they strip gardens clean, and worst of all, they multiply like rabbits. Life where I grew up would never be the same. My brother has had to send numerous coons to the other side, but it is a never ending battle. I hope you get some more in the next few nights.

Harley's girl :

I have had fox and coyotes playing in the field in front of my house. I tell ya that is an eerie sound, coyotes howling.

I've watched coyotes hunt and try to kill ringedtail foxes here in AZ. The ring tail foxes can climb trees and eventually the coyotes give up.

YEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAA Great Job! They don't look all that healthy, especially after eating all they have! Those chicken dinners add weight...oh, scuze me, its the gravy and potatoe isn't it- ha ha.
Don't eat them, back a number of years ago, I would say yes, eat them, but now they have been around all sorts of virus', eating humans wasted food, and what ever else they scrounge up, yuck.
We had a family that used to keep all the raccoon, Bear and cow fat in a tin on the back of the stove. When the lady of the house cooked, she would use that in cookies, cakes and to fry in. Needless to say, yuck, for those of you that know what bear fat smells like, can you imagine biting into one of those donuts!
I do not know how they survived such cooking and storage practices. We die from less these days!
Anyhow, great job again, reset those traps again tonight and finish up the rest of them too.

We don't have pure coyotes, instead we have them that have domestic dog mixed in, running in packs- one of those things that we didn't have growing up. There is a bounty on them, but before you can see those killing machines, they will take down your livestock- a neighbor lost 3 lambs to them. The ewes were going nuts, jumping at this preditor, blatting for their babies. Sad, its just sad that there has to be that balance in our lives.
Needless to say, we had a heifer that had its tail chewed off by coydogs, had to put the heifer down, she went nuts. If anyone made a sound behind her, she would begin kicking and thrashing, almost hanging herself while we had to keep her in to heal.
Ok, enough sadness, good job on the coon again!
