Did you try looking at the (human) medical supply for padding and bandages?

Im telling you, these are much cheaper than buying a box of diapers.
The big non stick pads here were like 45 cents or something very inexpensive. I buy diapers and they are not cheap. You could try the cheapest brands, but Im not sure how absorbent they are.

The diaper should work though, just want you to save some of your hard earned cash for maybe treats and vitamin supplements.

You can go to Wal Mart and buy Parents Choice diaper by the case for about $14. They work good.

Sorry ..no pics today . Stupid me left the camera on all night hooked up to the computer while downloading pics . The bandage and wound still had tons of pus....but he is FINALLY putting weight on his leg after 2 1/2 days !

He's not getting any better about his shots ( we are rotating from each side of neck and butt .) We finally had to ear him along with the rope today . All I can do is keep doing what I am and pray he comes out of it . I'm sure it'll be awhile till I see most of the pus gone , just happy he's using it even a little ! Thanks again to everyone.....what a great bunch we have here !!!

On the shots, Are you trying to insert the needle with the syringe attached... you mentioned bent needles? Have you tried thumping three times then the needle? If he's already needle shy you may have to work with him desensitizing him somewhat.

Maybe with all the experience here at BYC we can come up with some tricks to help you administer the shots without the fight and stress.

A very good remedy for wounds is sugar and iodine. How many, and how big or how many injuries will determine how much of each ingredient is necessary. Start with about ¼ to ½ a cup of sugar, and slowly mix in the iodine in small increments until you have a thick, but not soupy past.

With rubber gloves on your hands gently apply a thin layer of paste so that it covers the horses' entire injury.

The iodine will disinfect the wound while the sugar adds thickness to the mixture, keeps the flies away, and keeps the skin from dying. I have found this to be the most effective method for treating minor scrapes and scratches, especially on the legs. This mixture can be used to treat abscesses and thrush.

Try not to use Bute for too long as the side effects can be bad.
