I could probably never get a water bottle to do that again if I tried, but it happened. I have always been careful with anything glass like since. Luckily I happened to walk by and caught it before it got out of control. My wife’s car still has a cigar sized burn in the ceiling though.

That's frightening!

Probably the changing angle of the sun with the changing seasons caught the mirror in a way that it hadn't been before.

EXACTLY my thought, too (are we twins in another life?)
It is 6 months from April so it would have happened in April if you had the mirror in the same place. You can try placing a shield over the top of the mirror… or move it, but in its present location you have defined the time of year and location of concentrated light, so I would consider the shield and eliminate the guess work in choosing a new location.

this is why I never display snow globes on a window sill. (I collect them.. I know, tacky)
