Warning: quail drowning

I use the same drinkers in my brooder. I've had to resort to elevating it on a platform to keep the little buggers from fouling the water, though. I don't know how they manage to poop in that little trough, but they do.
I have found that a ceramic cat food bowl upside-down works perfectly. Upside-down like that it has a ridge around it that keeps the waterer from slipping off the platform.

I always use this type of waterer for Quail hatchlings for about the first week then go to a normal chick waterer for another week or so this has worked with no problems and is much easier than using rocks or marbles when changing and cleaning. It's very small no way to drown in this Harris Farms Quail Waterer Base.

I had one drown in this today. I'm going to try this with the pebbles next.

Fortunately we haven't had any quail drown using the red or yellow waterer. If you're going to use a standard chicken waterer it should have marbles in it to prevent drowning. Chicken products are not suitable for quail babies despite what producers tell you. I hope you can get hold of an anti-drown drinker. Sorry for your loss.
