I just learned a HUGE lesson. I was sewing a diaper for one of my chicks (yes, a diaper. They are running all over my living room, I hate containing them- and there is only 3

), All the girls were on my lap, snuggling, and then my Buff Orpington chick decided to go after my thread! She managed to get it tied into a knot at the base of her tongue! OMG!!!

It took my daughter to hold her, my husband to hold her beak open and hold one of the threads, and I took a pair of suture scissors and managed to cut the thread at the base of the knot. SCARED ME TO DEATH

Now they are in the crate. NEVER AGAIN. I will sew in the other room from now on!

Oh, Eleanor is fine. There was no bleeding or open wound of any kind, thank the Lord.

Scary! Who would have thought something like that would happen?! When my DD was a baby she got one of my long hairs wrapped around her little baby toe and we almost had to take her to the ER to have it removed. It was cutting off the circulation and so swollen we had a hard time getting it off there. Glad it worked out for you!

NWChicks I also have to worry about long hair getting in there the little buggers go for everything odd. I have read on here more stories like NursELB's and was worried about the same thing. I am glad you girl is ok.

I have always sat in my recliner and knitted, or sewed, or done any number of crafts. It never dawned on me they could be so fast! I watched her go for the string, and I thought I pushed her away from it in time, but no such luck! I'm just glad I had scissors small enough to get in there. Thank goodness I work in an ER and keep those unused ones that we're supposed to throw away
