Warning...very graphic........................love and kindness LOL!!!

And my gentle Field Lab attacked a stray baby chick early this spring when it got away from its mama. The Lab was on a leash I was bringing him from the pen to the house and he drug me across the yard to get at the baby chick.

I guess those dog stereotypes are like people stereotypes, just based on the conduct of a few and not the whole group.

labs are also bird dogs, trained to hunt and retrieve birds. we had a huge problem with our old lab. she would open all the small animal cages and ever so gently bring every one to us. she never hurt one, but it was scaring the heck out of the animals to have a dog pick them up and carry them around. we rehomed the small animals because the dog was only doing what she was trained to and it wasn’t fair to the little guys to have panic attacks daily.

Love it on multiple levels!! Thanks for sharing!

All the years I worked as a Vet Tech I never hesitated to pet the pit bulls that came in the clinic. There were several breeds that I never just walked up to and petted but the pits that came in our clinic were always just big furry, friendly tanks.

My daughter(s) all have Pits and so does my son. Every one of these dogs is a lover...not a mean bone in their body! Well...MAYBE somewhere underneath the huge lapdog that tries to lick your face off!!! Try having a 75 lb dog climb up in your lap like a Pomeranian!!! LOL!!! I just have to laugh, I always had a pre-concieved notion regarding Pits! I still do in a way...it has to do with their ABILITIES rather than their actual temperment I think!

So... I only read the part "Warning...very graphic.." and started watching the video and after the dog started sniffing the chick in the first second I clicked paused and did not want to keep watching.

Thankfully I reread the title and could finish watching it...

That was great! My pittie is calm around my chickens and LOVES my toddler, but cats...not so much!

75 lb. lap dog is an accurate description.

Any dog--it's all in how you raise them.

Adorable!...I have always had pits or Staff Bull Terriers. This vid is like life at my house!:)When I worked 3rd shift in an animal emergency clinic- my male Staff Bull Terr dog came with every night and worked as the "greeter". Made for interesting surprised comments from clients. He also would trot across the parking lot to the donut shop at 5AM and "sit up pretty" in their doorway to beg for donuts. Could'nt hurt a fly. My female pits self appointed job was to curl up with litters of orphan kittens to comfort them. That said- they are muscular and need to be raised right like any other strong breed. (Hmm I wish people would raise their chihuahuas right too but that is another story)
With 15 yrs in the veterinary business I never did meet a human aggressive pit. Seriously. But I would never walk up and put my hand on PLENTY of other breeds!!
I wish people would figure out that in this information age; what you hear on the news is whatever is sensational and will shock. Believe me LOADS of people get bitten by dogs every day. None of these stories are interesting or will ever make the AP newswire (unless it's a pit.)
