**Warning*** yucky graphic pics! Good news! Update on Page 11!!!!!!

Harley, chickens do not get colds, per se. It is most likely something contagious like CRD that will make him a carrier for life. That means the entire flock is always in danger of becoming this way if you put him back. It could already be too late. Did you recently add any chickens to your flock? If you bought him as an adult, he may already have been a carrier and is just now showing symptoms.

Here are some excellent articles and they include information on Infectious Bronchitis, Coryza, etc.

I had a white rooster who got that in his eyes. It goes away. I left him in with the others, of course when you have more than one rooster together they're going to spar once in awhile. I see it as no problem... mine didn't have a problem.

Oh god. With all the talk of crd and everything you guys are worrying me. The white rooster I have had the foam in his eye a while ago, now he's fine, no respiratory problems... but he's in with my other adult chickens and everything is fine, everybody is fine. Should I be worried?

I am not sure what is wrong with my rooster!!!! He has started getting this yucky bubble stuff in his eyes!! I whip it away and within minutes it is back over his eyes again!!! Please help me! Has anyone ever seen something like this before?!?!?! He can not see to walk so he just stands around now. And the younger roosters are now picking fights with him.

Make sure to separate him NOW . I would put him in a cage close to wear he can see the others . UNLESS you have a med size crate that you can bring him inside because of the heat . LOOKS like a SINUS infection and stuff is draining in his eyes . BLESS his heart . MAKE sure you wear gloves NOT to spread this thru out .

The deal with CRD and infectious Coryza and other diseases that are carrier diseases is that the birds will seemingly recover, but will still shed the disease during times of stress. That means others in the flock will get it and could come down with symptoms. I can't diagnose your rooster, I'm just telling you that people seem to believe that chickens just get colds, but they really dont, not like we think of a cold. Antibiotics only subdue the symptoms of the disease, they do not actually knock it out forever, if the disease is one of that type. My treatment for this type of disease would be culling the birds who have it. That's my personal choice; you may make a different one. It's also why at the very least, if you purchase birds, you must quarantine them away from your flock (not breathing the same air even) for at least a month. Still, if they are carriers and do not show symptoms during quarantine, you could still have a problem. It's why I do not buy adult birds, ever.
Could also be a sinus infection, but dont assume that's all it is.

It is shredded paper. I was told that it makes great bedding. It does but it also makes one heck of a mess. I will not be doing that again.

Well, Harley has had his first shot of Tylan 50. He did really good. I am now noticing that he has a crust type thing on his nostrils.

And now he is breathing with his mouth open. He simply can not die. He was my first chicken. How could I ever get "rid" I can't do that. I also can not stand to think about the fact that he would be forever alone.

I just don't understand...how he can be fine one day and close to death the next. I have got new birds but they are chicks. And they are NPIP. So I am guessing they were tested. Plus they are not in the bug run. I only have my adults in the big run. The newest chickens that I got was 5 weeks old...and again they are not in with the adults.

So even if this does clear up, he will always have to be separated?

Whatever it is your birds have already been exposed so while useful to separate while actively sick, it will have no use whatsoever to separate him once recovered... you either cull your entire flock and start over (overkill IMHO) or simply treat when they are acitvely ill. Many backyard flocks (if not most) have this without being aware of it.
