!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!

My TSC can be very hit or miss depending on who is working and how worked they are with customers. I think they do an ok job of labeling chicks correctly.

There is one woman who is usually with the chicks and she is a chicken lover herself. So I feel they receive great care when she is around.

However, this last week they received a shipment of silkies in the bantam bin. Over half were crusted with pasty butt. My oldest daughter was so upset by it we bought 4 covered in poo...she asked specifically for ones with poo. I went back a few days later and again several with large amounts of poop on them. I couldn't leave them like that so I had them pick out the ones with poo on them. The guy who boxed them up seemed a little embarrassed and mentioned they needed to do a better job keeping them cleaned. I also noticed he didn't charge me full price for them...he took a $1 off each chick.

Brought them home and cleaned all up. All seem to be thriving.

Now we have 10 silkies we did NOT need but my heart and my daughter's heart could not leave them like that.

The poo is a little common on arrival day with my store. To be fair though I've noticed at least with my silkie chicks I order that they seem to have a penchant for getting poopy vents 😅

Sure it's common on arrival day...but all week? We went in 2-3 times that week and a large portion was covered with hard dried poop. It took me a good 10-15 mins per chick to get them cleaned off.

No, it was the same shipment. My store doesn't get chicks very often. 2-3x a year they stock with a large shipment.

Their vents were sealed shut with more than just one layer of poop. It wasn't moist at all. It was hard poop that the chicks were trying to get off themselves.

Again...the guy who works there full time was even embarrassed about how they looked.

I've bought chicks from TSC , local breeders, and ordered from different hatcheries. I know pasty butt is common. That's why you clean them off. You don't let them sit in it for a day or two letting it get hard enough and matted in their feathers that they can no longer poop.

My TSC is ok, they have given me many healthy chicks, but 1/2 were roosters. The other day though, I went in to get 2 sex-links, and they had a cockerel bin, many were bloodied and beaten. This poor white leghorn cockerel was soaked in blood and poop, and i, of course, picked the chick with the worst pasty butt, I felt bad for her.

If you buy chicks from tractor supply BE CARFUL! Inspect each chick carefully!!! They never get me the right breeds and all the chicks are always half dead when i get them. So make sure to look up the breed and compare. I find everyone at my Tractor supply is very very lazy! The chicks never have enough food or water. They always have pasty butt! Then they wonder why the chicks die! Give me your thoughts on your local tractor supply or feed store.
i just bought 12 chicks from them and 4 are already dead the next day, and 2 more are sick just confused
