Anyone ever gotten this on a hatching egg?? It’s kinda odd and I’m contemplating whether I should set it or not. It could just be extra calcium like usual but idk.

All eggs are hatching eggs if fertile. ;)

I've set screwy eggs.. and will call them NOT ideal.. but you do YOU, KEEP records, TRACK results, report back. :pop

Seriously though.. There are MANY causes of different types of warps and conditions of egg shells described pretty good in the following link.. You will have to decide which matches your description best. It might be directed at chicken eggs, but should still be lot's of valid information. EYE can't make out if yours is slab sided, bulging, cracked and repaired, etc..

EGG quality problems BYC

Some weird eggs hatch, others don't. I would say eh, not so much here but once in a while.

If it's a "new layer" hiccup.. I wait for it to go away before setting eggs as I want best hatch rates but also best genetics.. and have heard of early pullet hatched eggs.. pullets never coming into lay.. in the next generation.. female poultry hatch with all the ovum follicles already on board that will ever become eggs. Just for informational purposes.

Happy hatching, since I can tell your headed that way! :jumpy:jumpy

It’s totally fine to set. Some eggs may have some mess ups on the surface, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still good. It’s just a bit of excess calcium, nothing to be concerned of. :)

Yeah, that's just excess calcium. Do yo have a specific concern or just a general question? If you have anything specific maybe we can address that.

If you are setting other eggs from that girl I would not worry about any genetic potential. It should be the same for all of her eggs. I wouldn't worry about that egg anyway.

I don't think the duckling will have any issues zipping if that happens to hit the zip line.

If it were a question of setting that egg or a different egg I'd look at the other egg. That one may not be quite perfect but many of them aren't. I'd personally set that egg.
