Silverstream blinked, awakened by the sound of birds chirping. She gasped, realizing Shadowpelt was curled up beside her. Pulling herself to her paws, she poked him awake. "Shadowpelt, I've got to go! Oh, Dapplestar will be furious!! What will I do?!" She hissed, her eyes wide. Shadowpelt shot to his feet, glancing around. A wonderful thought came into his mind, but he knew Silverstream would reject it. But... he had to ask her anyways. "Silverstream, come with me. Back to Shadowclan. Maplestar already knows about me and you, she'll be more than happy to accept you.." He looked deep into her eyes, pleading. He wrapped his tail around her shoulders, licking her cheek. Silverstream stared at him with round, blue eyes. "No, no.. I- I couldn't. I'd have to go get my kits, but I couldn't do that alone.... No, Shadowpelt. Not now." She gave a curt nod, licked his cheek, then pelted back toward her territory. Shadowpelt sighed heavily, and began to trudge back to camp.

He slipped in quietly, knowing there might be some cats asleep. He padded silently up to Maplestar's den, said his name, and hoped she would allow him to come in. He also hoped she wouldn;t be angry.

Maplestar curled her tail around her paws. "Yes, Shadowpelt?"

Dapplestar paced in the RiverClan camp, furious.

Shadowpelt dipped his head, even though his was already low. "Maplestar," He began, desperately trying to keep his voice from wavering. "I u-um," He sat down, tracing lines in the cave floor with his claw. "I talked t-to.." He trailed off, not really wanting to bring the subject up.

When Silverstream finished washing the scent from her coat, she managed to catch a fish. Lifting her tail and head proudly, she loped into camp. Dropping her catch on the fresh-kill pile, she headed for the nursery.

"Go on," Maplestar mewed gently.

"Silverstream!" Dapplestar barked. "Where have you been?"

"U-um, I saw Silverstream again." Shadowpelt meowed, though he couldn't help but purr slightly at his mate's name. "Would you, u-um, accept her in the clan i-if she, um, said she wanted to come?"

Silverstream jumped, blinking. "I was out hunting!" She replied, shaking her head as if she didn't know what was wrong.

"Of course. I'd welcome her as if she were any other ShadowClan cat," Maplestar mewed.

"And that's why you didn't return from the Gathering last night?" Dapplestar growled. "It's sunhigh! There are patrols looking all over RiverClan territory for you!"

"You would? Oh Maplestar, would you?" Shadowpelt meowed joyfully. His amber eyes danced with glee, his tail flicked with happiness.

"I-I came home.." Silverstream cocked her head. "You didn't see me? I went out to hunt again because I couldn't sleep. Something about the gathering bothered me." She mewed, sitting down. "I'm sorry I've caused trouble Dapplestar." She dipped her head in respect. "It won't happen again."

"Without a doubt," Maplestar mewed.

"Cloverwhisker told me your scent in the nest was stale," Dapplestar pointed out. "It better not."
